Riddarholmsfesten – Stockholm’s new public festival 2001–2004

Riddarholmsfesten on Riddarholmen in Stockholm 2001–2004 was organised by Tommy Mattsson and Joakim Stenhammar through StreetPromotion – more than 100,000 visitors, The Hives, Broder Daniel and Lee “Scratch” Perry.

The festival on Riddarholmen

Riddarholmsfesten was a music festival on Riddarholmen in Stockholm, held from 2001 to 2004. Behind it were Tommy Mattsson and Joakim Stenhammar, among others, through StreetPromotion – the same team that created Nytorgsfesten in 1995.

Over its four years the festival drew more than 100,000 visitors in total to Riddarholmen, with restaurants, bars and a market around the stages.

Hip hop, reggae, pop and indie rock

The festival offered a broad mix of styles – hip hop, reggae, pop, hardcore and indie rock. Artists included The Hives, Broder Daniel, Sahara Hotnights, The Sounds, Dungen, Caesars, Pharoahe Monch, Organism 12 and Snook.

Reggae Splash became the festival’s own reggae night, with international acts such as Lee “Scratch” Perry and Ijahman Levi.

2004 – Stockholm’s new public festival

The final edition was held on 25–28 August 2004 under the name Stockholm’s new public festival: Wednesday with The Hives, Teddybears Sthlm, Broder Daniel and Sahara Hotnights, Thursday’s hip hop night with Pharoahe Monch, Snook and Organism 12, Friday’s Reggae Splash with Beres Hammond and Lee Scratch Perry, and Saturday night with Hovet and guests.

What we did for the festival

As organiser, StreetPromotion was responsible for everything from permits and site planning to marketing: posters, flyers and street teams across Stockholm ahead of every festival.

The experience from Riddarholmsfesten and Nytorgsfesten is the foundation of what we do when we produce and market events for others – today with new events such as Stockholm Night Market on Riddarholmen.
