What are OOH and DOOH?

OOH and DOOH are two abbreviations that turn up in more and more media plans. Here we explain what they mean, which formats they include and how to choose the right one for your campaign.

What does OOH mean?

OOH stands for out of home – advertising that meets people outside the home. It includes posters, advertising columns, bus shelters, banners, stickers, vehicle advertising and installations in public space.

What does DOOH mean?

DOOH stands for digital out of home. It is advertising on digital screens in public space – for example large screens on facades, digital signs in stations and mobile LED screens on trailers.

The difference between OOH and DOOH

Traditional OOH is printed and stays up for the whole campaign period. DOOH shows moving images and can change message during the day, but often shares screen time with other advertisers.

Printed formats give a long presence at a low cost per site. Digital formats give motion, flexibility and the ability to adapt the message to time and place.

Alternative media – outdoor advertising beyond the usual sites

Beyond fixed advertising sites there is alternative media: guerrilla marketing, street teams, sampling, stickers and installations. These are the formats that surprise and get people talking – and that is where our strongest speciality lies.

Which should you choose?

Choose printed OOH when the message needs to be seen long and wide. Choose DOOH when you need moving images or want to switch messages. Choose alternative media when the campaign should spark conversation and spread. The strongest campaigns often combine several of them.
